Many Alaska Natives who live in Anchorage or other urban areas registered to vote when they lived in rural villages. Although they still vote, their votes are tallied in rural areas, which generally send representatives to Juneau and Washington D.C. who are already sympathetic to, and familiar with, rural and Native issues.
If all Alaska Natives inhabiting urban areas voted where they lived, they would constitute a powerful voting bloc in those areas and would likely help elect a Legislature more responsive to Native concerns.
It can happen. Register and vote where you live today.
